A rare visit to these shores for Bela Fleck and Abigail Washburn saw the pair on stage at The Barbican it was the simplest of stage setups, a couple of chairs, a few microphones and a couple of banjo stands for each player. Bela Fleck is of course, the master of all things three fingered Scruggs style, and so much more
Washburn and her husband Bela Fleck are banjo royalty – he redefined bluegrass with the Flecktones she fused the sounds of Appalachia with Chinese folk – but this year is the first the couple have recorded together.
"I sing because I'm happy," sang Abigail Washburn toward the end of her show with fellow banjo picker (not to mention, husband) Bela Fleck in the closing number of the night "His Eye is on the Sparrow."
