Black Grape were a rock and roll band from Manchester, England, formed in 1993 by Shaun Ryder and Bez, formerly of Happy Mondays. They recruited rapper Kermit and drummer Ged Lynch of the Manchester-based group The Ruthless Rap Assassins, plus guitarist Wags from The Paris Angels.

BLACK GRAPE’s Cardiff comeback: a soul-lifting experience defying the cold
Whilst Black Grape certainly owes a debt to Hingley for galvanising the crowd, the casual, undramatic entrance of Black Grape's Shaun Ryder and Kermit earned the duo ecstatic applause.
It would seem my first impressions of my first visit to The Mill had not been a fluke, because once again, tonight, door staff, bar staff, and security were particularly friendly and helpful. It’s a cracking medium sized venue that we have here and whilst I’m led to believe it’s a sell-out, it is comfortably full
In truth the group's founders Shaun Ryder and Bez - who put the band together with Kermit and Carl from Manchester band Ruthless Rap Assassins - had been bringing the party for 10 years already with the Happy Mondays.
