Citizen Cope Celebrates His Birthday with a Stellar Performance at Keswick Theatre
Citizen Cope, born Clarence Greenwood, dropped by 9:30 Club in the city he grew up in to perform a selection of favorites and a few unreleased songs on his All The Songs You Want to Hear Tour recently.
As Cope finished, he shared an anecdote that inspired the title for his album — Santana warning Greenwood to stay away from the two h’s, heroin and helicopters, two things that historically and tragically claim the lives of musicians.
Singer and songwriter Clarence Greenwood was born in Memphis and raised in Washington, DC where he broke out of the local music scene as Citizen Cope in 2002. Just two days after releasing his first album in seven years, his hometown fans were ready to sing along to every song.
Stories are what make us human and what’s music if not small snippets of humanity? Clarence Greenwood, aka Citizen Cope, performed his positive, poignant, and personal tales during a recent sold-out concert at DC’s 9:30 Club.
There was an honest and emotional feeling in The Franklin Music Hall; when the first chord of the night started in Let the Drummer Kick, the crowd went into an instant uproar.
On a snowy Saturday night fans were flowing in the doors of Manhattan’s Beacon Theatre for a sold out show. The crowd was joining to celebrate the release of Citizen Cope’s new album ‘Heroine and Helicopters’. While the opening act David Ramirez was finishing a beautiful set every seat in the theatre was being filled.
