Ostensibly a one man band – Eric Bachmann – they are lumped in with the American folk movement and while there are elements of that a cursory listen to their back catalogue reveals a variety that may not be immediately obvious.
Despite his physical dominance he’s able to weave out songs with a playing style that moves between delicate finger-picking and aggressive strumming in addition to a voice more high-pitched than you’d expect.
And when much of that career is spent spinning confessional tales like those of Cormac McCarthy novel minus the bloodshed chances are those fans are more devoted than most.
This time, he’d come armed with a full band, or almost full; no drummer, instead a machine whose volume sometimes threatened to overtake that of the three men on stage.
