The sounds of Smashing Pumpkins drifted through the air outside the Moda Center. As Billy Corgan’s keening vocals of “1979” ceded to Linda Perry on “What’s Up?” it became apparent that whoever selected the music pegged the evening for what it was: a celebration of alternative ‘90s music.
Tonight’s show may be celebrating 30 years since the release of Dinosaur Jr’s fifth album, 1993’s ‘Where You Been’ but it’s been 34 years since I first saw Dinosaur Jr. at Tamaki Makaurau’s Powerstation on Oct0ber 4th, 1989.
In 1993, Dinosaur Jr. released their fifth studio album 'Where You Been’, which was heralded at the time as one of the crowning glories of slacker culture.
