Considered a prominent figure in the development of instrumental hip-hop, DJ Shadow (real name Josh Davis) has proven himself with groundbreaking, genre-defining solo output on such respected labels as Solesides and Mo' Wax. DJ Shadow spent his teenage years in Davis, California and was a DJ at the community radio station KDVS.
Granted, he may only now use one turntable, and, in fact, only one record for scratching duties, but the principles of (well-rehearsed) mixing on the fly are still in place.
The DJ spoke of loving Australia, how he hoped looming world threats won’t keep him away and playing songs from throughout his career: released and unreleased.
When an artist is renowned for owning more than 60,000 records (no that is not a typo) you just know that this evening's musical escapade is going to be something very special indeed.
