Echobelly are a British/Swedish indie band. They were brought to prominence after much praise by singer Morrissey who asked them to be the opening act on his 1994 tour.
With a clutch of swaggering Blondie-meets-The Smiths singles they racked up six Top 40 hits gold and platinum albums and with singer Sonya Madan boasted an antidote to the laddish cartoon that the movement became.
Some of my favourite shows are the ones not in gigantic, impersonal arenas, but those that happen in smaller venues where the audience get to bond with their idols and the band gets to feel the love up close.
I would probably trace its beginnings as far back as the Blur reunion shows in Hyde Park in 2009, making the revival scene nearly a decade old in itself, but lately things really seem to have kicked into a higher gear.
During the Britpop renaissance of the mid-90’s Echobelly witnessed great success in a rather competitive scene which featured acts such as Elastica and Sleeper.
