Critic Consensus
Based on 40 concert reviews, the critic consensus is that Ex Hex is rated as a decent live performer, with shows that lack distinction. Ex Hex concert reviews describe live shows and performances as incendiary, crowd-pleasing, pleasing, frantic, and incredible.
Ex Hex are an American indie rock trio formed in 2013. The band consists of Mary Timony (vocals, guitar), Betsy Wright (bass) and Laura Harris (drums).
The songs they have filled the set with on this tour have been were evenly balanced between their two studio LPs – in fact, seven songs were selected from each of them. Their songs, already uproarious in their studio iterations, were absolutely incredible in the live setting.
Ex Hex played a sold-out show Thursday night (4/4) at the Bowery Ballroom on the Lower East Side of NYC, mixing in songs from their first two albums, Rips and their recently released It’s Real.
As we’re standing outside the Scala on a murky night in Kings Cross Ex Hex drummer Laura Harris comes running towards us, carrying what looks like her cymbals, and is frantically ushered into the venue just before the doors open.
Their take on garage rock has 90’s indie influences throughout as there are times when there are hints of the Dandy Warhols and others there are elements of Lemonheads but both with a roughed up edge.
