The band opened the sold-out show with Motherfucker, the new single from Sol Invictus (Ipecac), its first studio album since 1997’s Album Of The Year.
While that might have challenged the casual fan, the five-piece presented themselves as who they are, not what they think people want, throughout an eclectic 90-minute set.
Fusing metal funk prog rock and hip-hop as early as the mid-1980s Faith No More were later held partly responsible for spawning the execrable nu-metal scene that was to follow in their wake.
They inadvertently helped to invent the horrendous nu-metal genre by fusing rap and riffs and heartily embraced soul and pop influences in defiance of a heavy rock culture suspicious of any whiff of commerciality.
