The afrobeats star may now be 62, but he put on a show more energetic and committed than you’re likely to see all year
Waist deep in an extended take on "Corruption Na Stealing," Femi Kuti hushed his backing band's bombast to the meditative rumble of the downbeat rhythms that push the track along, and addressed the audience.
Powered by international guitar virtuoso Omara Bombino Moctar, the band blended Nigerian music and lyrics about politics and suffering in Africa with rock and blues.
The sun was out and Nigel Farage gained seats in the local election, threatening to tighten up immigration and the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson retired after 27 years at the top of his game.
And Afrobeat heir Femi Kuti’s Positive Force band is a lesson in bombast–four on brass and woodwinds, three backup vocalists, keys, electric guitar, bass, and two drummers rounding out the percussion.
