It seemed an age ago when I was invited to a listening party for ‘The Overflow’ album, recorded at Lee Prebble’s Surgery Studios in Newtown during Covid. And at the time, we were promised that French For Rabbits would tour it.
Bringing a dreamy, relaxing vibe to the Small Hall Sessions, French For Rabbits have gained themselves a few new fans from their appearance in the rarefied arena that is the Kereru Hall, and will no doubt continue to do so over the next few nights of this run.
French For Rabbits captivated an attentive audience on the last stop on their national tour to celebrate the release of their third studio album The Overflow.
There was a dimming of the lights, but nobody switched on the strobe. However, in a genteel fashion befitting the introvert personalities of the principal players, a small (but perfectly formed) audience still had a ball this night, down at The Globe.
If you mixed a bit of the Girl Group sound with masterful literary song-writing and spare textured musical backing you would have a good idea of what French For Rabbits delivered at the Civic Club tonight.
At the busiest time of one of modern times' shittiest years, the Sitting Room Sessions have bookended the week with two shows of rare beauty, providing a brief respite from the daily grind. Last Sunday night it was Finn Andrews, and on this Saturday evening it was the sublime French for Rabbits
And that, the audience did whilst soaking up the sweet, delicate and melodic sounds that magically echoed throughout every corner of the cosy, petite room.
