These aren’t the rock and roll covers you’ll hear on fancy new car advertisements on the TV. Hayseed Dixie take classic rock, get it drunk on homemade alcohol, spin it around a few times and then unleash it in a firestorm of acoustic guitars, mandolin and banjo.

Ed, looking every bit like the slender punk of the 1970s, gave a fabulous warm-up performance drawing on the full range of his musical and acting talent.

The speed and accuracy with which their fingers burnt across the frets was spectacle enough in itself and the extended guitar banjo and violin solos continually left the crowd in awe.

You might easily mistake the band for a bunch of escapees from Death Row at Leavenworth penitentiary with their tattoos bandannas and faded dungarees.
