Hockey Dad

After both releasing an album this year, Hockey Dad and Remo Drive came together for a double headline show at the Motorco Music Hall this past Saturday. Joining them on the bill, and doing a great job getting the crowd warmed up was Weakend Friends.

After an uncharacteristically sunny day, the Melbourne cold had crept in just in time for Hockey Dad and Ruby Fields show at the Forum.

I quietly totalled the number of times I’ve seen Hockey Dad perform. Four gigs in total, including festivals, were counted on my fingers, five including their impending set at The Triffid (5 October).

The crowd knew all the words, and one guy even knew the (air) guitar riff.

With their new record, 'Blend Inn', released earlier this year, Hockey Dad continue to dominate the surf-rock scene in Australia.

Meow was sold out, like Auckland’s Whammy Bar the night before, showing the popularity of the group – there were many last-minute pleas for tickets on the Facebook event page.
