Joanna Newsom (born Joanna Caroline Newsom on 18 January 1982 in California) is an American multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, and actress. Newsom was classically trained on the harp in her youth, and began her musical career as a keyboardist in 2002 in the San Francisco-based indie band The Pleased.

Above all, one thing’s for sure — Joanna Newsom’s cause is nowhere near Ozymandian.
Such was their reverential devotion that beside cheering her entrance and rapturously applauding each song there was such a respectful hush throughout the performance that the sound was crystal clear.
Her first ever performance in the Concert Hall was back in 2008, when she performed her second record Ys in full with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra – also as part of the Sydney Festival.
On our soil for the third time — as part of Sydney Festival this year — the celebrated American singer-songwriter was welcomed on stage with warm appraisal.
