In 2004, I saw Joe Ely perform at the Austin City Limits Festival. (At the time I lived in Austin, attending graduate school in philosophy and law school at UT.
Sometimes it takes a few quiet moments to really catch the gist of what a songwriter has to say, even though it’s always been right there in the notes and the phrasing.
