Julian Lage, a self-proclaimed guitar nerd, can only be described as genius. A child prodigy who was the subject of an Oscar-nominated documentary at age eight, Lage is one of those rare individuals who exhibits a complete union of human and instrument.
Nels the elder and Julian the younger brought their ROOM collaboration to life for this session at possibly the greatest acoustic venue the festival has to offer.
The evening threatened to be a major disappointment. Crawling along the beltway under ominous skies, dodging felled trees from the day's earlier storms, a late arrival seemed inevitable.
Julian Lage bounded onstage wearing a huge grin that never left his face the entire evening in his recent appearance at Union Stage. And for good reason — his trio thrilled on many levels: technically, musically, and emotionally.
