The watchword this evening is “intimate” from the venue (Bush Hall’s capacity is only 400) to the musicians on stage.

Recorded on what sounded like a cassette tape accidentally eaten by a vacuum cleaner and spat out again it found her singing about her romantic entanglements over a rudimentary acoustic guitar.

While many may know O more for her flashy outfits and outgoing persona as lead vocalist of the rock group Yeah Yeah Yeahs, she showed off a softer, more reserved side with an intimate set of songs off her debut solo album Crush Songs.

She was dressed like a Blue Velvet dream and the glowing room pierced with bright red lights matched her jazz-singer vibe.

I was there for Spoon a band not built for such a strange setting making the show more of an experience than your typical album release gig.
