Katie Noonan lavished a grateful Brisbane audience at The Tivoli (20 September) with a live performance of her 20th studio album, 'The Sweetest Taboo', as part of Brisbane Festival.
It's not often a musical act blends the layered beauty of modern classical music and the lyric poetry of a local legend in world-renowned Australian poet Judith Wright.
From the eerily beautiful introduction of strings and song to the final performance rejoicing love, the audience was swept up in a bewitching music ensemble that was an emotive and raw journey of the human condition.
Songs That Made Me the show is born out of the album of the same name devised and produced by Katie Noonan the album like the night was a celebration of the songs that helped in the words of Noonan make us the artists we are today.
Arguably one of Australia's most brilliant vocalists, Noonan is also a gifted composer and pianist, as this collaboration with Brisbane-based contemporary circus company, Circa, proves.
Amongst the strange and wonderful creatures that call the Zoo home there is a splendid ambiance as warm summer days turns into twilight before drifting into a serene evening.
