This was not Laura Veirs’ first visit to Islington’s Union Chapel, but it nonetheless had all the hallmarks of a new beginning. She’s in sympathetic company – I see a few same-sex couples between the stone arches, and an ultra-cute baby who both keeps the average age respectable and anchors the wide-eyed innocence of Laura Veirs’ set.

It probably sounds something like a mix of Sharon Van Etten Regina Spektor Feist or something more extreme like Joanna Newsom.

Of course the much applauded Year of Meteors and July Flame contain some mighty pretty moments but there’s also a sense that they belong to a slightly smug American West-Coast eco-culture.
