Lloyd Cole took to the Barbican stage on Saturday evening, understated yet quietly commanding. As the lights dimmed, two original members of The Commotions keyboardist Blair Cowan and guitarist Neil Clark strolled out alongside drummer Signy Jakobsdottir.
Upon opening the Barbican Centre on 3 March 1982, the Queen remarked that it is “one of the wonders of the modern world”. That remains a moot point, however, it can’t be denied that the centre puts on a world-class programme of music, theatre, cinema and visual arts.
For the crowd heading to Brighton Dome on this damp Hallows’ Eve, no tricks on offer: instead, irresistible musical treats from this 80s veteran singer-songwriter. It’s just shy of 40 years since the release of his iconic album ‘Rattlesnakes’ with his band The Commotions
Earlier this year we welcomed Lloyd Cole’s 12th solo studio album, produced by Chris Merrick, former Adam & The Ants drummer & producer. Still pushing his song writing boundaries, this time around Cole combines his trademark insightful lyrics with a minimalist electronic soundboard.
