Best known as the birthplace of the Manic Street Preachers it sporadically hosted contemporary bands (as opposed to tribute acts and dinosaurs) back in the 90s and early 00s but the well has run pretty dry in recent years.
The broadcast introduced the band’s unique almost genreless music to millions of teenagers and was payback for a group who had blazed out of SST Records along with Husker Du and influenced Nirvana and many others.
First the Rolling Stones kicked the roof of TCF stadium – feel freee to look there’s no roof left – and on Friday the Meat Puppets took over First Ave co-headlining with Soul Asylum to kick off a 29 stop US tour.
Three songs into a 90-minute set, they played "Plateau," which some might remember when Kurt Cobain howled, "Nothing on the top but a bucket and a mop/And an illustrated book about birds," on 1994's Unplugged.
Lollipop (QRO review) is the third album for the band with Cris back in the fold after an arduous twelve-year absence due to drug battles and incarceration.
And Chris more than proved his words (and worth) during the band’s truly epic set (in front of an equally eager and excited crowd) last Thursday night.
