So as I sit and write a review of one of the best shows I've seen in a long time, Leeds jazz-Afro crew Nubiyan Twist at Sheffield Universities student Union venue, The Forum, I'm faced with it. There's no other way around it really, dammit. It was a journey.
Earlier the sun was shining, the warmth lasted into the evening and this was to be the first of seven shows from Nubiyan Twist on their Dance Inna London tour.
Having never ventured over the treacherous Mersey waters and into the unknown territory of Birkenhead, I'm pleased to say that my experience is nothing short of blissful. The train here (only six minutes, why do we all act like it's a trek?), the rushed, soggy walk through the rainy night, and all worth it.
Since their debut self-titled album dropped in 2015, there's been a lot of excitement around Nubiyan Twist. Their fusion of jazz, funk, soul and practically everything in between has won them a devoted army of fans, who showed up in force when they took to the stage in London.
