A unique prospect in a sea of conformist new sounds, Opus Kink are the kind of band that thrive in the live environment. With a debut EP release in June, 2022 via the always on point Nice Swan records, they’ve got all the required stamps of approval.
Opus Kink are clearly generating a buzz. This Patterns show has been sold out for months and because the band are born and bred in Brighton (and its surrounding villages), the guest list has clearly been stretched to breaking point with assorted family members, who unquestionably get involved in the fun.
Describing Opus Kink is no easy feat. Comprised of Angus Rogers (guitar/vocals), Sam Abbo (bass), Fin Abbo (drums) Jed Morgans (saxophone), Jazz Pope (keys), and Jack Banjo Courtney (trumpet), some call the collective experimental.
There’s a confusion in their image, but in an irresistible way. I can’t tell if I’m looking at the next generation of supermodels, the guys who sold me cocaine last week or the guys who asked me for a bus fare on the street. Regardless, a show with Opus Kink feels more as if they are hosting as opposed to performing.
