Orphaned Land is a progressive metal band from Petah Tikva, Israel, formed in 1991. They combine oriental elements and traditional Jewish folk music with slow doom/death metal.
Frontman Nan Li looks like the final boss from a fighting game and possesses an inhuman vocal range, growling, screaming, singing and – this is the real kicker – performing Mongolian throat singing.
He is wearing a simple shift which is probably common attire for people in the Middle East but not so for the usually ego-driven front men of bands in the West.
