Those of us who know better made our way down to Shephard's Beach Resort on Sunday night to catch an internationally acclaimed DJ in Paul Oakenfold, the latest headliner in Shephard's summer concert series labeled Beach House Sundays.
Refreshingly devoid of the glitch and dub we’ve become accustomed to, Oakenfold layed out a dyed-in-the-wool brand of trance that was a welcome respite from what’s currently dominating the scene.
Paul Oakenfold, who headlined the Ogden Theatre last night, has been spinning steadily to crowds around the world since the late 1980s. He has quite a track record, having founded the Perfecto imprint in 1989
He was watching veteran mixer/DJ Paul Oakenfold young Swedish drummer Andreas Brobjer and the Boston Pops perform his “Travelacoustica (The Symphonic Remix)” a nearly 20-minute piece that combines well everything he likes about music.
But this is a University tour for Oakenfold and his stable mates so the trance purists have to mix it with beer-swillin’ students which ain’t such a bad thing.
