Pennywise was formed in 1988 in Hermosa Beach, California by four members Jim Lindberg (vocals), Fletcher Dragge (guitar), Byron McMackin (drums) and Jason Thirsk (bass). They released two EPs: A Word from the Wise (1989) and Wildcard (1989).
Pennywise isn’t from Orange County, but the band booked five nights at the Garden Amphitheatre in northern Orange County, where they would play one album in its entirety for five shows. When any legendary band does something like that, it doesn’t matter where the shows take place – it’s going to be a big deal.
Straight Ahead was not the first album by Pennywise, in fact they had already released four albums before it. But last year it turned twenty. And what better excuse to celebrate than an anniversary!
