It's been over thirty years since Case recounted he was unknowingly nominated for a Grammy for “Old Blue Car,” the song he wrote with Victoria Williams. Case revived it, with his bluesy picking driving a new incarnation he called “Brand New Old Blue Car.”

Peter Case is originally from Buffalo, NY, but currently resides in one of the foggier corners of San Francisco, where he moved in the early ‘70s to pursue a solo acoustic career.

“I knew I would have trouble getting into the after school program with that,” he remarked.

This evening was no exception, as thunderstorms soaked the streets and pre-Super Bowl hordes from the suburbs jostled for parking spots and jammed bars and restaurants up and down Euclid Avenue.

The Blue Note is home turf to Jay Farrar, the single most important venue in his early career, the right spot for Son Volt's first outing before their most daring record to date found its audience.
