Dressed in a tailored suit with slicked back blonde hair, a noticeably trimmer Plan B has matured not only in appearance but in performance too.

The collection of tracks – characterised by softer tones and falsetto crooning – is reminiscent of his breakout hit The Defamation of Strickland Banks, the million-selling record.

The rapper, singer, actor and film director also known as Ben Drew has chosen an arresting venue – Shakespeare’s Globe – to stage his return, in anticipation of a forthcoming album.

Plan B, AKA rapper-cum-soul singer Ben Drew, is also perhaps trying to reclaim it as a site for raucous everyday drama, and arrives as a groundling, ringing a bell as he walks through the crowd to the stage.

At other points during a new reggae-influenced song, giant inflatable beach balls that changed colours when hit bounced around the Globe and regardless of all the sound flaws, Plan B ended on a high with his encore as streams of silver confetti blasted out across the crowd to Ill Manors.
