Rachael Yamagata's ‘Tragically Beautiful' Performance at the Icehouse
“Oh, you need to get up here” says Rachael Yamagata. The young man in middle of the sixth row needs no more encouragement as he skips out of his seat nimbly and bounds up on to the high stage to join her on Let Me Be Your Girl, arguably her most commercial and instantly catchy song to date.
Playing a mixture of old and new songs, ranging from soft sway-along ballads to ultra raspy rock tunes, Yamagata was supported by promising new acts, Tragicomedies and The Gildings.
But that wasn’t the case Wednesday night when her appropriately titled Dealbreaker Heart Tour descended upon an intimately rustic Constellation Room in Santa Ana.
If this half-Japanese songwriter from New York is known for one thing it's emotional frankness: she is one of those people who when asked how they are will tell you.
