An Intimately Satisfying Evening with Rickie Lee Jones
With a recording career that starts in the '70s and travels all the way through more musical fads than you'd care to remember, let alone list, she has a well of music that is deep and wide.
Add in her poetic songwriting, rhythmic phrasing, plus a voice that’s just as capable as belting sky high as it is whispering with intimacy, and the Chicago native isn’t one to be put in a stylistic box.
This straight-shooting Chicagoan singer-songwriter would have fitted right in among the various scandalously under-appreciated maverick musicians who make cameos in David Simon’s homage to the Big Easy and its post-Katrina jazz and blues scene.
In the 1980s she wrote and performed some of the nations best loved albums from Pirates, The Magazine, Flying Cowboys and the eponymous Rickie Lee Jones.
