Perth Festival 2018 has seen an eclectic selection of performers take the stage at Chevron Gardens so far.

The artist currently resides in the heart of the city and frequents many of the same businesses we love.

But tonight's show promises something a little different, before Shigeto even touched any production tools he was a traditionally trained jazz drummer, and the incorporation of that into his show leaves me hopeful for something more dynamic.

An over-reliance on triggering pre-programmed beats and loops can lend performances a static and unspontaneous feel.

Shigeto (born Zachary Saginaw from Ann Arbour Michigan) blends jazz hip-hop and “futurebeats” into an electronic act that gives reprieve to those of us suffering from EDM-overload.
