NPR granted his sound the distinction of “nu-soul”, praising him for not merely piggybacking off of the established blues, R&B, soul artists before his time, but for picking up elements and creating something entirely unique.
Philadelphia artist Son Little (the alias of Aaron Livingston), a sometime collaborator with The Roots and alternative hip-hop artist Rjd2, combines blues, soul, and hip-hop in his unique singer-songwriter style.
Son Little made his return to Utah this weekend to take the stage at The State Room in Salt Lake City. In a past interview with Catalyst Magazine, the artist said Utah might just be the most beautiful state.
The blues are alive and well, but you don’t have to tell that to Aaron Livingston’s fans. The singer-songwriter, better known as Son Little, blended acoustic blues and vintage soul during a recent show at DC’s City Winery.
He appeared on stage at the OMERA in London's London Bridge dressed fully in tweed, sporting a pulled-down fisherman's hat to match his oddly hip-grandfather aesthetic- his guitar at his hip, waiting.
