Sonata Arctica was formed in 1996 on the edge of the world, in the northern Finnish town of Kemi. Originally formed as Tricky Beans, they released few demos and as they got the contract they had to change their name.
To my surprise there was already quite a line outside Mill City Nights, a venue that’s become somewhat of a staple in the local music scene but will unfortunately be closing it’s doors next week.
Before their performance at the Mod Club, I had the chance to talk to both a founding member, Tony Kakko, and the newcomer, Pasi Kauppinen, of Finnish metal band Sonata Arctica.
