Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes warmed an enthusiastic but disappointingly sparse crowd at The Egg Friday night at the Hart Theatre with a spirited, if at times rather ragged 90-minute set.
In the mid 1970s, the tremendous success of Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band brought the music world's attention to Asbury Park, New Jersey. Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes greatly benefitted.
Southside Johnny was a week removed from turning the young age of 73 but hadn't set foot onstage to publicly celebrate it. Johnny Lyon's visit to the Birchmere turned the first of two nights in the Washington DMV area into a birthday bash.
To round out their main set at The Birchmere recently, New Jersey rockers Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes returned to play “Having A Party.” It was the perfect note to end the show because the Jukes are always a party.
