The Steep Canyon Rangers showed how bluegrass was traditionally made, but only briefly, on Sunday at Music Haven.

SCR has served as Martin's backing band on tour and also recorded with Martin and Edie Brickell.

Martin’s current act evokes a nostalgic medicine show quality with its catch-all “cure-what-ails-you” elixir of humor poetry and song.

Perched upon a makeshift bandstand with pinkish skies behind and blackish skies in front, the top-form Rangers did their thing in front of a few hundred locals (plus me, who drove in from out of town through massive storms) on an unseasonably comfortable night that miraculously remained dry.
