Stereolab are a UK-based band whose style, mixing 1950s¨1960s pop and lounge music with the motorik beat of krautrock, was one of the first to which the term post-rock was applied. They are noted for the use of vintage keyboard instruments like Moog synthesizers and Vox and Farfisa organs.
The last time Stereolab played the Concorde2 travel issues meant they were just arriving at the venue as the support band came on. There are no such issues tonight, and they look relaxed as they take to the stage.
Stereolab have never been a band for labels. Authors, promoters, and musicians alike have all tried to accurately pinpoint the signature Stereolab sound, each wrestling with the phenomenal atmospheric range of the musicians until inevitably resigning to their playfully borderless reality.
The penultimate Zoo Twilight show of 2020 saw one of the Ninetie's biggest experimental groups, Stereolab, head back to Melbourne, ten years after the group last toured. The group were joined by Mildlife, a Melbourne group whose lo-fi dream electronica kept the crowd pulsing early before the main event.
