Greg Dulli's grungy soulmen The Afghan Whigs continue their resurgent second act at the reopened KOKO

They officially broke up in 2001 but lead singer/songwriter’s Greg Dulli’s side project, The Twilight Singers continually evolved. A host of musicians including Ani DiFranco, Petra Haden, Apollonia and the late, great Mark Lanegan all contributed to Twilight Singers albums.

On a Friday night (5/13) where rain kept the typical crowds away from downtown Orlando, middle-aged rock fans packed The Social to see Cincinnati veterans The Afghan Whigs. With no opening act and minimal lighting, the band delivered a no-frills 90-minute set that highlighted what the rockers do well.

The 2000s saw a period of reformations for the band after a tentative break-up in 2001, with seventh album ‘Do To The Beast’ released early last year.
