A grey overcast London and rain threatening – to some that might seem the perfect accompaniment to a night with The Handsome Family with their dark and twisted tales – and in a church no less.
The summer heatwaves may be over but there were still waves of heat in the Norwich Art Centre last week. Indeed the temperature was so high that Brett Sparks of The Handsome Family noted that it was melting the finish on his acoustic guitar.
“For us to have Loose Records here tonight and for us to still be married…” is Rennie Sparks's wryly improbable reflection towards the beginning of this evening's performance in Hackney a nice acknowledgement of the record label who have long supported them
People are bundled up in warm clothes settling onto padded seat cushions and cradling mugs of tea and cocoa in the soft coloured lighting, candle light and the kaleidoscope of the chapel’s rose window.
