The James Hunter Six is a British R&B soul jazz band led by James Hunter, Lee Badau, with Damian Hand, Jonathan Lee, Jason Wilson, and Kyle Koehler and Andrew Kingslow sharing keyboard/piano duties.
During an encore version of Talkin’ ‘Bout My Love, he played his instrument upward like a double bass, then let it slip from his hands as if he were going to bounce the guitar off the stage floor like a basketball.
Hunter, backed by bari and tenor saxes, keyboard, standup bass and drums, delivered soul as it should be: hot, heavy and squealing…a little like the French gals, by the final encore.
With the DJ's evocative sounds of early R"˜n'B having perfectly set the mood for the show, The Chris Corcoran Trio launched into Ike Turner's "The Rooster". Already, the limitations of a dining venue, however salubrious, presented itself; I wanted to push away my table and get dancing...
