The Wailin’ Jennys played two sold-out shows at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, California. We knew we were in for an exciting night when, as we walked up to the venue for the evening show, a couple leaving the early show asked if we were here for the concert. Yes, we told them.
In fact, this - the final stop - was the longest tour by the mainly Canadian trio playing folk and country since 2011 when the band released its last recording, "Bright Morning Stars.
On Thursday evening, the pin-striped harmonies of the Wailin' Jennys rippled through the ornate panels and pillars of the 101-year-old Cabot Theater in Beverley. The venue has been a longstanding treasure to the local community, surviving several iterations and turnovers to emerge as the retro concert hall it is now.
The Wailin Jennys opted to start Wednesdays show — the second of three sold-out performances at The Birchmere — singing the traditional Long Time Traveller a capella.
Their performance at the Berklee Performance Center on Sunday evening lived up to the hype showcasing the talents of three uniquely gifted singer-songwriters with aptitudes for enhancing each others’ work.
