The final evening of Nocturne Live at Blenheim Palace on Sunday, 16th June 2024, concluded the series with a fantastic lineup featuring Crowded House, Sheryl Crow, and Turin Brakes. The event offered an evening of diverse musical styles, from folk-rock to pop, set in the enchanting surroundings of Blenheim Palace.
Privat Club is a small venue, and this made for a very shoulder-pressed crowd waiting for Turin Brakes to light up a damp Berlin evening. I was hoping this close atmosphere would not stifle the rich and expansive musical palette these guys bring.
They’re not a band of big, polemical statements or headline-grabbing actions, preferring to quietly concentrate on what they know and do best – polished, accessible guitar-pop that celebrates the smaller, lesser proclaimed aspects of music.
I had to check this fact with my brother, who went with me, because I have no recollection of the event and only know I was there because I kept the ticket.
However the lack of local parking spaces, and a steady stream of people walking into the 600 capacity venue tells you that after sixteen plus years together, Turin Brakes could play a bus shelter and still draw a crowd.
Her deep, deep vibrato pulsated around the room, interspaced with sound clips from ye olde time films that Park layered beneath her acoustics and heady vocals.
