Hailing from Hampshire, duo Ward Thomas bring their upbeat folk to a buzzing Barbican on Friday night.
The new record, which holds the distinction of being the first country release to make number one in the UK Top Forty album chart, is a move away from some of the twangy Americana found on the debut, From Where We Stand.
The most immediate beneficiaries have been Catherine and Lizzy Ward Thomas 22-year-old twins from Empshott Hampshire whose second album Cartwheels reached No 1 last month – the first by a UK country act to do so.
They started recording in Nashville three years ago spend much of their time in the US’s country-music capital and have all the makings of major pop-country crossovers.
