Their intention at the time was to deliver new methods of communication that reflected the current status quo. That mirroring was essential to their ethos.
While other bands from the post-punk era are happy to ride the nostalgia train, regurgitating their past glories, Wire just keep on doing their own thing; producing new and better music and doing it on their own terms.
Still by blending hard-won self-centredness with humble diplomacy Wire satisfy each element of the 200-capacity crowd among which may be seen both hipster beards and original Ramones T-shirts.
