Ustad Zakir Hussain (born 9 March 1951), son of tabla player Ustad Allah Rakha, is the most famous classical tabla player in India (and, probably, in the world) today. He is appreciated both in the field of percussion and in the music world at large.

World Music Magic: Béla Fleck, Edgar Meyer, Zakir Hussain, and Rakesh Chaurasia’s Enchanting Performance
It has been a week since Zakir Hussain brought the Masters of Percussion to Colorado, and although the review is already in the bag, there are still a few things left unsaid.

It is fitting since his father; legendary tabla virtuoso Allah Rakha popularized the instrument worldwide and pioneered North Indian traditional music to England and the Americas.
The show began sans Rakesh but he would join after the first song and remain for the remainder of the set. From the start until the end Edgar Meyer was absolutely driving the bus. His skilled fingers danced on the strings as the rest of the band followed along layering the melodies.
On March 1st, 2017, the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) hosted a quite unusual function in Mumbai: they were honoring the lifetime achievement of a truly great figure in Indian music, Vanraj Bhatia.
