38 Special is an American rock band. Formed by vocalist Donnie Van Zant in 1975 in Jacksonville, Florida, the band initially had a straight-ahead Southern rock sound, much like Lynyrd Skynyrd, the band of his older brother Ronnie.

The '80s rock band's first-ever show at the amphitheater on Thursday felt like a race to reviewer Lorilee Craker, but the capacity crowd did get to hear some fan favorites. Review, photo gallery.
Fans of both genres came together at Treasure Island Resort & Casino Saturday night (3/4) to rock out with 38 Special after stomping their boots to Jamey Johnson.
Back in the 70's the legendary Ronnie Van Zant and Lynyrd Skynyrd were the kings of Southern Rock, but the 80's were dominated by his little brother, Donnie Van Zant's band, 38 Special.
