The Auckland Philharmonia is getting around these days. Last week they performed with Brooke Fraser now here they are jamming with Chè-Fu.
The latest Hawkes Bay Arts Festival ‘Taster' event saw Che Fu and the Kratez bring their sweetly soulful hip-hop to the ToiToi stage, in what was originally intended to be a show commemorating the 20th birthday of ‘The Navigator', Che's landmark album.
In 2001, Che Fu's Navigator was everywhere. The Auckland rapper's second studio album was a smash hit, and for many in Aotearoa was their first time hearing hip hop, a style of music that had been largely underground since its arrival in New Zealand in the 1980s.
