Bio
Che Fu (born Che Ness) is a Māori-Niuean hip hop, R&B, and reggae vocalist from Aotearoa (New Zealand). He is usually backed by his band, The Krates, which feature his father Tigilau Ness of Unity Pacific. He started his career with the seminal NZ band Supergroove. Shortly after he broke from the band in 1996, he released his first single ‘Chains.’

The latest Hawkes Bay Arts Festival ‘Taster' event saw Che Fu and the Kratez bring their sweetly soulful hip-hop to the ToiToi stage, in what was originally intended to be a show commemorating the 20th birthday of ‘The Navigator', Che's landmark album.

In 2001, Che Fu's Navigator was everywhere. The Auckland rapper's second studio album was a smash hit, and for many in Aotearoa was their first time hearing hip hop, a style of music that had been largely underground since its arrival in New Zealand in the 1980s.
