It is a great achievement, then, when a musician like David Rawlings comes along and makes one feel that there is something in American tradition worth keeping alive and breathing, namely its music.
All other distractions fade away and one can focus on his confident driving guitar playing that is both discrete in melody and fluid within the larger harmony.
