Bio
Eli "Paperboy" Reed, a Boston-via-Delta South soul singer who conquered both street corners and punk clubs with a mix of grooved-out rave-ups and slow-burning ballads. Sounds like your favorite Motown and Stax Records livened up for the Winehouse era.

The Future Juke festival continues to bring excellent shows and following on from last week’s superb set by Cedric Burnside, last night was the turn of Eli ‘Paperboy’ Reed and he put on a brilliant belt of Stax-tinged soul complete with a superb horn section.
Boston-based Eli Paperboy Reed brought a trimmed down version of his band The True Loves (no horn players) and entertained a small but enthusiastic crowd for just over 90 minutes.
His voice had me frozen in place as I could not believe that such an old school deep southern soul sound could be re-created in this day and age where popular music has pretty much lost its soul.
If you go back in the history of roots music, you’ll find that genres that are harshly separated today were not so clearly distinct in an earlier time. Up to the ’50s and ’60s, country and folk were closely tied to blues, and the word often appeared in the title of country songs.
