In Jason Isbell’s solo show at the Auditorium, debut songs and simple artistry
‘Cast Iron Skillet’ serves as a metaphoric reminder of the richness that life experience brings and the beauty of simplicity. The Grammy award winning track is simply stunning and sits perfectly within this evening’s encore.
As with his albums, whether solo or with The 400 Unit, an abiding impression of Jason Isbell’s shows has been one of a continuing story. Obviously any show is going to contain a mix of old and new but somehow Isbell blends his setlist with particular care.
It was the perfect night for the perfect show, if you are an Americana music lover. It was a cool, breezy, early September night on the grassy knolled venue outdoor amphitheatre in Northern Virginia.
