G3

G3, the collaboration of a trio of talented guitarists, led by Joe Satriani, and featuring fellow guitar maestros Steve Vai, and Eric Johnson, wrapped up their 11-city tour with a two nights of sold-out shows at the marvelous Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles, and I was lucky enough to be in attendance for the final show.

In 1996, guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani decided that the only thing better than one guitar legend being on a tour is three guitar legends being on a tour, and thus the G3 shows were born.

London’s Hammersmith Apollo (i.e. the Hammersmith Odeon of old) provided an appropriate historic venue for this much awaited event, namely the return of G3 to London. Joe Satriani brought his G3 tour through town, accompanied on stage by Phil Collen (of Def Leppard), as well as John Petrucci (of Dream Theater).

Guitarist Phil Collen (Def Leppard, Delta Deep), a first-timer on the tour, along with fellow axemen John Petrucci (Dream Theater), and G3 prime mover Joe Satriani, played impressive individual sets with accomplished musicians backing them.

It's certainly not a show for the faint of heart, ukulele enthusiasts, or stamp collectors.

On the 25th April, the brainchild of virtuoso Joe Satriani made a stop at London's Eventim Apollo where he and two of his esteemed fellow axemen were to show off their chops in front of a crowd of guitar connoisseurs.
